Turkey – Scaling quality and efficiency in breeder egg handling
Kula Yağ Emek Yem is a long-established Turkish producer with a strong industrial background. Founded in 1968 with an oil factory, the company later expanded with a feed factory, table egg operations, and BU PILIC integrated facilities. Since 2000, its breeder and hatchery operations have been active, and today the company is ranked among Turkey’s ISO 500 industrial companies, with the ambition to keep moving up by increasing both quality and output.
To understand the practical impact of egg grading and automation, we spoke with Gökhan Bayram, Veterinarian and Hatchery Manager at Kula Yağ Emek Yem, who has held this role since 2013, and Veterinarian Yaren Emen.
“Even small grading differences can cause serious losses”
Gökhan Bayram explains that hatchery performance starts with one critical step: eggshell quality control.
“First, we evaluate eggshell quality. If off-grade eggs — cracked, dirty, hairline-cracked, or upside-down — are sent to the incubators, it can reduce chick quality, lower hatchability, and cause contamination.”
With an annual capacity of 50 million eggs and an equally large export volume, the impact of selection accuracy becomes even bigger.
Gökhan Bayram:
“Considering we have a capacity of 50 million eggs per year and export the same amount, even small differences in grading can lead to serious economic losses.”
Meggsius Select: more accurate selection, less labor, fewer errors
To increase precision and reduce manual workload, Kula Yağ Emek Yem implemented Meggsius Select for breeder egg grading.
Yaren Emen:
“Meggsius Select plays an important role in selecting high-quality breeder eggs. It helps us separate dirty, misshapen, and cracked eggs. The high-sensitivity adjustment allows us to perform more detailed inspections.”
Beyond quality control, automation brought an operational advantage: less dependence on manual sorting.
“Compared to manual selection, our labor requirement has been significantly reduced. Minimizing human error is especially important for achieving high-quality results.”
Ovoset Pro: fewer upside-down eggs, higher hatchability
Alongside grading, Kula also focused on improving egg setting consistency using Ovoset Pro.
“Together with Meggsius Select, we also use Ovoset Pro. Ovoset Pro helped us achieve higher hatchability rates by reducing upside-down egg placement rates. It also provided a significant reduction in labor requirements.”
From interest to investment — and strong local support via Avimak
The decision started with curiosity about Vencomatic technology and turned into a hands-on evaluation.
Gökhan Bayram:
“I had been following Vencomatic products and technologies. When I saw the grading machine, it caught my interest. Through Avimak, we contacted Vencomatic.”
After a visit to the Netherlands to see the solution in operation, the team moved forward.
“They invited us to the Netherlands, showed us the machine, and explained it in detail. We liked it and decided to purchase it.”
Support during installation and daily use helped ensure a smooth start.
“Both during installation and throughout operation, they provided strong and fast support. We continue to use it and we are very happy.”
Reliable technology for consistent results
For Kula Yağ Emek Yem, improving breeder egg grading and setting accuracy isn’t just about equipment — it’s about protecting hatchery performance at scale. With Meggsius Select and Ovoset Pro, the company strengthened quality control, reduced labor pressure, and supported higher hatchability results—while building confidence through responsive support.
