Transforming hatcheries with in-ovo sexing innovation

Written by Vencomatic Group | Sep 29, 2025 6:00:02 AM

At Hendrix Genetics’ hatchery in Germany, change was urgent. With the ban on chick culling and rising demand for fully domestic “5D” eggs, the team faced the challenge of modernizing an outdated facility while maintaining the highest standards of welfare and productivity.

Together with Orbem and Vencomatic Group, the hatchery underwent a complete transformation. The Orbem Genus Focus, powered by AI-driven MRI and seamlessly integrated with Vencomatic’s automation, delivers non-invasive in-ovo sexing with remarkable precision. Less than 1% of males now hatch, female hatch rates have reached record highs of over 95%, and workflow efficiency has improved dramatically.

Beyond technology, this project was about people and partnership. By involving staff early, rethinking workflows, and ensuring reliable backup systems, the hatchery team gained confidence in the solution. Today, they operate a modern, scalable, and animal-friendly hatchery that meets regulatory demands, supports market needs, and sets new standards for sustainable poultry production.

This case proves that with the right technology and collaboration, we can turn major challenges into opportunities for progress.
