Van Gent Nest

Van Gent: preference for wooden nests

Chickens naturally prefer wood. That is why we design laying nests and slats that match this preference – a favorite with farmers and chickens alike for decades.

History

More than 50 years of experience

Van Gent has years of experience with wooden nests in the poultry sector. Since 2023, Van Gent has been part of the Vencomatic Group, something we are very proud of. What once started with hand-picked wooden nests has now grown into fully automated systems. Nevertheless, the basic design of the wooden nest has remained unchanged since 1990. As part of the Vencomatic Group, our knowledge and experience will be put to even broader use in the future.

Chicken behavior

The chicken's preference

When hens have a choice of different nests, they typically choose the wooden nest. Even when there are several hens in the same nest, wood remains the favorite. The natural texture and pleasant climate in a wooden nest provides comfort and a sense of security. The nesting material therefore plays an important role in the behavior and welfare of the hen.
