How Van Gent Nests increase efficiency

Ukraine - Agro-Oven is a leading poultry producer focused on delivering consistently high-quality poultry products. Agro-Oven has developed its poultry operations into a highly efficient, European-standard production system, supplying poultry meat and breeding resources to both Ukrainian and international markets. In 2015 they chose Van Gent Nest. We asked Serhii Syltsia, Chief Engineer of the Parent Stock Division, to share his practical experience.

Serhii Syltsia: “We purchased our first Van Gent nests ten years ago. It was our first experience with automated systems, and it immediately demonstrated advantages in terms of convenience and efficiency. The capacity of one poultry house is approximately 13,000 birds, including roosters. We operate 32 poultry houses equipped with Van Gent nests, and we continue to expand with these systems, as we are very satisfied with the technological and economic results.”

The nest requires minimal management for Agro-Oven (a minimal number of staff) and guarantees a low percentage of floor eggs and ensures high bird productivity. Investments in bird comfort have proven to be economically justified already in the first years of operation.

Serhii Syltsia: “What really makes Van Gent nests different is how much attention has gone into the design. Everything is focused on the birds — keeping them comfortable, reducing stress, and keeping floor eggs to an absolute minimum.
We use hardwood perching slats, which clearly work better than plastic. They last much longer and support better nesting behavior. It’s a level of detail and durability that you don’t often see in other systems.”
